The joy of Home Videos
My parents recently decided to do something with the 50+ home videos that sit in a drawer in the living room serving as dust collectors. My mom went out and bought a DVD recorder and brought it home Thursday night. Since that night, home videos, starting at the day I was born, have been playing in the living room all hours of the night, as my dad attempts to transfer all of them onto DVDs. If you thought 2001 was slow, try watching 10 minutes of these. The patience and passion that my dad, who is anything but a director, filmer, producer, or anyone else involved in creating a film, put into these videos of his kids is amazing. Some videos are just one day of my dad staying at home and watching my brother and I eat, watch TV, play on the swings, and go to bed. It wasn't until this past weekend that I realized how much heart goes into filming home videos, and that is what makes them so special. There is really nothing special , amazing or unique about the angles. However, the simplicity of home videos is what, to me , makes them so great. I can sit in front of them and watch for hours just because they are so simple. I guess the point of this post is to say that sometimes filming doesn't have to be complex or innovative to catch someone's attention and intrigue them for a couple of hours. Sometimes, just simple video entertains and amuses viewers.
